Following a break
in 2023 the Registration Numbers Club will hold a rally for members this
summer in Gloucestershire, the event taking place at The Classic Motor Hub
near Bibury not far from Cirencester. This excellent facility is built on
an historic five-acre site formerly the home of RAF Bibury and situated
right in the heart of the Cotswolds.
The Classic Motor Hub was an RAF Fighter Command
base during World War Two. It was initially a Relief Landing Ground for
the nearby RAF South Cerney flying school in 1940 but was soon used as an
operational fighter station. It helped to protect Cheltenham and the area
south of Birmingham and housed RAF Squadron 87 with Hurricanes and RAF
Squadron 92 with Spitfires. By the end of 1944 the site had outlived its
usefulness as an operational airfield and RAF Bibury was transferred to
Maintenance Command and was used for storage until 1950. Today the site’s
long history is still visible with the curved roof hangar being an
original ‘blister’ aircraft shelter and lots of the original hardstanding
in use for classic vehicle events.
The Hub was founded
by Martin Chisholm, an authority on classic cars for over 30 years having
worked for some of the world’s leading auction houses. Martin has a vast
knowledge of the market and of specific cars along with a valuable range
of worldwide contacts. He has put this knowledge into founding The Classic
Motor Hub, bringing his experience and skills together on a single
purpose-built site which we hope you will enjoy visiting. Entry to the rally will be £8.00 per car and whilst there is no charge to look round all the display areas with beautiful classic cars for sale, we would encourage members to visit the excellent on-site café and memorabilia store where you will find some really nice refreshments and several affordable items to spruce up your man cave.
Please complete and return the rally entry form included with the May 2024 issue of RNC News or download a copy from the link below, and send it with your remittance directly to the Membership Secretary, Karl Formstone as indicated to arrive by Friday 21 June 2024 at the very latest to ensure a listing in the rally programme. We will continue with the various class awards noting that the criteria for these are the same as in 2022 with full details of them being on the entry form. You can either pay by cheque made out to ‘The Registration Numbers Club’ or by PayPal to sec@TheRNC.co.uk
