In 2017 the Registration Numbers Club

celebrates forty years of cherished registrations

The Registration Numbers Club was formed back in 1977 and held its inaugural rally at Harewood House near Leeds. It is appropriate, therefore, that to celebrate the club’s 40th anniversary in 2017 we return to Yorkshire for our annual rally and pre-rally dinner.

We hope that as many members as possible will join us for this celebratory weekend event and help us turn it into a record attendance.

40th anniversary pre-rally dinner  -  Saturday 15th July 2017

If you are planning to attend the rally, have you thought of turning your visit into a weekend break and also joining us for the 40th year anniversary pre-rally dinner? This promises to be an excellent and enjoyable evening with like-minded people and takes place on the evening of Saturday 15 July 2017 at the Mercure Leeds Parkway Hotel. The hotel is conveniently situated on the A660 Otley Road on the north western outskirts of Leeds and provides easy access to the breathtaking Yorkshire Dales. It is around 8km from the centre of this cosmopolitan city famous, amongst other things, for superb shopping at Harvey Nichols and the Victorian Quarter.

You can easily reserve accommodation at this mock Tudor-style hotel which benefits from 118 rooms of various styles, formal restaurants, 24 hour lounge bar, free secure parking, free wi-fi throughout rooms and public areas, a fitness centre with pool, sauna and massage service plus a tennis court.

Rooms feature Hypnos beds, crisp cotton linen, duvets and comfy pillows, flat-screen TVs plus tea and coffee making facilities. All bedrooms are non-smoking and disabled rooms are available.

Once again this year we have arranged a three course meal with choices which will cost just £28.00 per person. Accommodation at the hotel is available from £37.00 per person per night including VAT and breakfast (based on two sharing a standard double room at £74.00 per night). If you decide to stay for 2 nights or more the rate is reduced to £66.00 per night. When booking please mention you are attending the Registration Numbers Club dinner to obtain these rates. Please contact the hotel for details of other rooms and make your own reservation(s) and pay for you own room(s). The hotel has plenty of accommodation but is in a popular area, so it is essential to book early to secure your room.

Other accommodation is available nearby. Just email Rod for a list or download one from the club website at www.TheRNC.co.uk - you can of course stay anywhere and still join the dinner at the Mercure Leeds Parkway Hotel.

If you would like to join us for this year’s dinner please complete the form in the February and May 2017 issues of RNC News or download one below, complete it and send it with your cheque for the meal cost only to:-

Rod Lomax, RNC Publicity Officer, 5 Bank Top, Baldingstone, Bury, Lancashire BL9 6RY.

If you have any queries concerning the dinner please phone Rod direct on 0161 764 8180 or e-mail pr@TheRNC.co.uk

Please make your dinner booking as soon as possible but by Friday 30 June 2017 at the very latest.

We managed a record turnout at our 30th year celebratory rally back in 2007 in Cheshire, so let’s try and beat that this time. Please put the date in your diary now ... it promises to be a great weekend.

We look forward to welcoming you to the dinner and to the rally on Sunday 16 July at Temple Newsam House.

Accommodation at the Mercure Leeds Parkway Hotel must be arranged and paid for directly with the hotel.

To contact the hotel please phone 0844 815 9020 or email 020rs@jupiterhotels.co.uk or you can also make a reservation online at www.accorhotels.com (search for Mercure Leeds Parkway)

40th anniversary rally  -  Sunday 16th July 2017
The venue is in the grounds of Temple Newsam House situated
to the east of Leeds and just north of the M1

Today Temple Newsam House and estate are owned by Leeds City Council and are open to the public. The history of the house can be traced back to around 1155. The estate is made up of large woodland, areas of which join onto the surrounding estates of the city of Leeds. There are facilities for sports including football, golf, running, cycling, horse-riding and orienteering. There is also a children's play park and a local junior football team plays regularly on the football pitches surrounding the house.

The house itself has recently undergone substantial restoration to its exterior. There is an established programme of restoring rooms back to known previous configurations, reversing the numerous intrusive installations and modifications that took place during the building's ‘art museum’ phase. There are substantial holdings of fine and decorative art which are of national significance.

Of most significant historical and cultural interest is the Chippendale Society collection of Chippendale works that are on permanent loan. Temple Newsam House, just one of Leeds Museums and Galleries sites, has an international reputation for scholarship and research and is in the top three non-national museums in the country.

Within the estate Home Farm, which is also open to the public, has a barn built in 1694 and is the largest working rare breeds farm in Europe. Sadly the farm was targeted by arsonists in the late 2000s with damage caused to a stable block. Some animals were injured but, thankfully, the majority were saved.

There are extensive gardens, with a celebrated rhododendron walk and six national plant collections.

The house is a Grade I listed building of outstanding architectural and historic interest. The stables are Grade II listed as are ten separate features of the estate which include the Sphinx Gates and the Barn.

If you would like to join us for this year’s rally please complete the form in the February or May 2017 issues of RNC News or download one below, complete it and send it with your cheque to Steve at the Club Office. Entries for club members will cost just £8.00 and will include a small anniversary plaque.

In a break from tradition the RNC will be opening this event to non-members and there will be a special class with an award for the best visiting cherished registration in the opinion of the judges. However, as the venue is owned by Leeds City Council, to keep in line with bye-laws all entries must be pre-booked. No entries will be permitted on the day. Visitor entries will cost just £10.00 and you can download a form to enter as a visitor below.

You can also download the visitor entry form from one of our rally sponsors by entering the following link into your web browser www.regtransfers.co.uk/rally

Please ensure you complete and return the correct form to enter as either a member or a visitor - thank you.
