A W Lymn Limited, Nottingham
After a
week of scorching temperatures, it was pleasant to hold our 2026 event on
the slightly cooler last Sunday in June. Over 40 members and guests joined
us at the spacious premises of A.W.Lymn Limited in Nottingham who hosted a
wonderful day of exceptional cars and registrations. The family run
company, now in its fifth generation, provides a funeral service along
with executive chauffeur-driven limousine hire and was established in the
early 1900s.
The large
company fleet comprises mainly Rolls-Royce and Bentley limousines plus
some Ford Mustang electric extended saloons. Most of the cars carry
cherished number plates which the business has been investing in for
several years, currently owning over 200, many of which are for sale. The
plates are generally number ones plus some 11s and some 111s.
Our hosts
generously provided a two-course lunch for members and guests which was
laid out perfectly in the showroom which normally houses the heritage
fleet. We collected donations from participants in lieu of this which has
been passed on to the A W Lymn Centenary Foundation, a charity which helps
those in need in the Nottingham area.
During the
day drives in small groups around Nottingham were provided in several of
the chauffeur-driven limousines, most being Rolls Royce Phantom VIIIs,
although the convertible Bentley Azure proved popular. Everyone commented
positively about the comfort, smoothness and performance of these
exceptional vehicles.
Whilst the
day did not feature the usual competitive element, an executive from the
company chose two registrations from those members present for awards.
‘Registration of the day’ was presented to Richard Conway for 3 OO and
‘Registration runner-up’ was presented to Mark Knight for M 116, both
worthy recipients.
There was a further fundraiser during the day ... a long-standing member from Cheshire kindly donated all his collection of registration number books to be sold in aid of the North West Air Ambulance. Thanks to members’ generosity a substantial sum was donated to the charity.
One of the books,
a copy of 'Car Number Classics' by Nick Young
was purchased by the club and presented to company Chairman Nigel
Lymn-Rose, MBE, as a thank you for hosting this most exceptional day.
Finally thanks are due to the whole team from A W Lymn, the ladies
who set up the dining area and tidied up afterwards, the chauffeurs on
duty during the day, and especially to Ben Percival, Projects & Events
Manager, whose organisational skills and attention to detail were
fantastic.
Thanks everyone for coming, we're glad you all enjoyed the day - the RNC team, Karl, Rod, Steve and John
2027 marks the 50th anniversary of the Registration Numbers Club Details of our event to celebrate this will be posted here and in RNC News once finalised |
